BRP deja de fabricar los motores fuerabordas Evinrude E-TEC y E-TEC G2.
La noticia acaba de anunciarse en el sitio web de BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), propietario de la marca que es un verdadero símbolo del fueraborda: el primer motor fueraborda del mundo nació con esta marca en 1907.
La decisión de suspender su producción, según el grupo canadiense (el mismo que produce los jets Sea-Doo), tiene mucho que ver con el gran villano de este año: el coronavirus, que impactó negativamente los resultados de la compañía.
“Este segmento de negocios ya enfrentaba algunos desafíos y el impacto del contexto actual nos obligó a finalizar la producción de estos motores”, explicó José Boisjoli, presidente y CEO de Bombardier Recreational Products.
BRP se convirtió en el propietario de la marca Evinrude en 1999, cuando la empresa matriz, Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC), se declaró en bancarrota. En ese momento, el grupo canadiense, fabricante de los aviones Sea-Doo, invirtió US $ 50 millones en la transacción, que también involucró a la marca Johnson.
Desde entonces, los motores Evinrude han empujado muchos barcos. Al igual que el Evinrude E-TEC G2, su fueraborda de 150 a 300 hp, anunciado como “el fueraborda más limpio del planeta”. Te echará de menos.
Al mismo tiempo que deja de producir motores Evinrude, BRP revela que ha firmado un contrato con el Mercury Marine estadounidense para suministrar motores fuera de borda para embarcaciones de marca canadiense. “Además, continuaremos brindando piezas de servicio de red a los clientes y distribuidores y cumpliremos con las garantías limitadas del fabricante”, dijo el CEO José Boisjoli.
“También seguimos comprometidos con nuestra estrategia global, que ha estado en progreso desde 2018 con la adquisición de las marcas de barcos Alumacraft y Manitou en los EE. UU., Seguida de la adquisición del fabricante australiano de barcos Telwater, en 2019”, agrega Boisjoli.
A partir de ahora, BRP tiene la intención de expandir su presencia en el mercado pesquero de pontones de aluminio a través de soluciones tecnológicamente avanzadas. “ La próxima generación de tecnología de motores viene con Project Ghost y la próxima generación de pontones con Project M, nombres en clave para nuevos productos que esperan transformar la industria”, agrega José Boisjoli.
